In July of 1996, Mr. Latorre took over as Director of Bands at Berne Union. Mr. Latorre also teaches a music elective that rotates by year between Music Theory, Jazz Lab, and Brass Ensemble. Three digital audio recording classes have been added to the music curriculum in recent years as well.
The Berne Union Bands have continued their winning tradition under Mr. Latorre's Direction, with the Wind Ensemble receiving Thirty-one superior ratings. In Mr. Latorre's time at BU the Marching Band has won: 39 Grand Champion Awards, 32 Reserve Grand Champion Awards, 95 1st in Class, 29 2nd in Class, 65 Best Auxiliary, and 57 Best Percussion Awards.
